TRANSPORTATION

The entrance gate to island Sumatra is an international airport in Medan – KUALA NAMU, from where is flight twice a week to Singkil. The second option is an international airport SILANGIT , near Lake Toba. From Medan or Silangit you have to go by car to SINGKIL .

Please do not hesitate to contact us, we will arrange a car, that will pick you up from  Medan or another place in Sumatra.

How to go from Singkil to Ira bungalows ?

From Singkil you have three options : charter a private speedboat, take a public local boat or take a ferry to Pulau Banyak, to the village BALAI, from where we will arrange a local  private wooden boat, that will bring you to Tambarat Island – Ira Bungalows.

Each transport option has a different harbour:

Public boats : are leaving between 8:00 -15:00 and we never know exactly what time. The boats start almost every day to Balai. The cruise také around 4,5 hours and cost 100 000 per person. You have to come to the harbour at 8:00 – 9:00 in the morning and ask directly the captain, what time will leave the boat or contact us via whatsapp, we can ask them. Please send us short message in whatsapp, when the boat leaves the port, so we can let know the local boat driver in Balai, which is called Adin, he will wait for you in the Balai harbour and will také you to Tambarat Island (300 000/person). Every boat has its name written on it, for convenience, it would be good to write us its name in the message as well.

These public  local boats in the moment not start from the Singkil old harbour, but from another harbour called : Anak laut located around 15 km from Singkil.

Ferry : The name of the ferry is : ACEH HEBAT 3 and operate twice a week. The cruise také 3,5 hours and cost start from 35 000 per person. The schedule its make only for current month and changes often.

Speedboat : The best, most comfortable and fastest way to go to Ira Bungalows is charter a fast boat, which goes directly (2,5 hours). It’s always better to leave in the morning. Please contact us in advance , thats we can arrange one for you.

All the fast boats still using the old harbour called : Jembatan Tinggi..All people know these place like Warung Pak Jala.

NOTES : 

If you take a ferry or the local public boat from Singkil and the boat will not arrive to Balai before 17:00 , you probably have to stay overnight in one of Balai’s accommodations. Local boats do not operate in the dark.

If you make reservation for the speedboat its working like these : we arrange the reservation. In the early morning the boat driver call us, if the weather condition is good and safe to transport people or not, after that he start from village Balai to pick you up. If the boat driver decide, thats the condition of the sea its not safe, he will not start . We can´t change this decision, its for your safety !!

Please keep in mind when planning your trip to Pulau Banyak that no boat will transport you in a storm. A good option is to plan a stop before leaving Sumatra, for example in Berastagi. where you can climb a volcano or visit local markets and you don’t have to worry that there will be a storm and you won’t catch your flight to Europe.
